I just feel like the entire time Joe and Demi dated, Nick was forced to just stand there and watch. He watched as Demi fell head over heels for him and then watched her fall far, far down into a pit of despair and confusion when he dumped her. And he tried to help her back up, but there was only so much he could do. I do think he helped, though. I just feel bad that he had to watch his best friend get so hurt so up close. And it’s ever worse if he really was in love with her, as I think he was/still is.
